About Us
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research – Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI) is one of the 13 research institutes under the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Based in Nyankpala in Northern Ghana, CSIR-SARI is mandated to conduct agricultural research and develop innovative technologies tailored to the savanna agro-ecological zone. Through crop improvement, sustainable land management, and climate-smart farming practices, the institute works to enhance food security, increase agricultural productivity, and improve livelihoods. CSIR-SARI collaborates with farmers, development partners, policymakers, and other stakeholders to promote the development, dissemination, and adoption of agricultural technologies across Ghana and the wider West African region.
Technology Transfer
CSIR-SARI actively engages in technology transfer, ensuring that research findings and improved farming techniques are disseminated to farmers and stakeholders to enhance productivity and livelihoods in the region.
Agricultural Innovation
CSIR-SARI conducts research primarily aimed at creating and improving crop varieties that are resilient to the challenges of the savannah climate, such as drought and pest resistance.
Sustainable Practices
The institute is committed to developing and promoting sustainable agricultural practices that are environmentally friendly and maintain the health of the savanna ecosystem.
